Visitor Center Coordinator

Position Summary: This position performs a variety of tasks that involve tourism project management, event planning, community involvement, communication, administrative duties, and other duties as assigned. This position will work to promote the Veneta-Fern Ridge Chamber of Commerce, community events, businesses, and local economy through its duties.

Supervision Exercised or Received: Position works under the general supervision of the Chamber President and Treasurer. Does not exercise direct supervision over any position. Collaborates with several organizations, businesses, and individuals to achieve organizational and position goals.

Essential Job Functions:

Tourism Project Management

  • Recruit local businesses to develop tourist excursion packages and itineraries, identify tourist economy gaps, and collaborate to fill them.
  • Market tourist excursion packages and itineraries by developing physical and digital materials and collaborating with partners such as the City of Veneta and Travel Lane County.
  • Sell tourist excursion packages through the Chamber of Commerce to bring visitors to the Veneta-Fern Ridge area.
  • Manage excursion package service quality.
  • Develop, track, and report on performance metrics to measure the quality of excursion package service delivery.

 

Event Planning

  • Organize, plan, and register attendance for Chamber sponsored and hosted events.
  • Rent rooms, register, and calendar events.
  • Develop, track, and report on performance metrics to measure the quality of events planned.

 

Community Involvement

  • Solicit new members to join the Chamber of Commerce.
  • Attend Monthly board meetings.
  • Attend community meetings, as requested.

 

Communication

  • Prepare and distribute weekly Chamber Newsletter to highlight all chamber members.
  • Maintain website and calendar.
  • Make Facebook events and posts.

 

Customer Service

  • Meet & Greet visitors, guests and customers.
  • Answer telephone and emails.
  • Assist and follow through with customers as necessary.

 

Administrative Duties

  • Order supplies.
  • Order member name tags.
  • Accept payments.
  • Keep Visitor Center brochure racks stocked.
  • Maintain appearance and cleanliness of Visitor Center.
  • Add new members to all databases – QuickBooks, Website, Facebook.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Assist board as requested.
  • Assist the Chamber Board of Directors and other Positions.
  • Maintain confidentiality as necessary.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

 

Note: The Visitor Center Coordinator is able to serve on the board of directors but will not be allowed to vote on any business regarding the Tourism Project Manager & VCC position.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills to perform essential job functions as determined by the Veneta-Fern Ridge Chamber of Commerce may quality.  Has computer, Word, Excel, Email and Social Media experience.

Preferred Candidate:  Has experience with event planning, tourism project management, and communication. Has experience working with entrepreneurs and businesses in the Veneta-Fern Ridge area.

Position Type and Work Hours:

  • Days and hours will vary depending on workload, season, and other events. May include nights, weekends, and other non-standard hours.
  • Evenings/Weekends/Holidays may be required depending on needs, special projects, and other events.

Work Environment: 

  • Indoors: Office environment.
  • Outdoors/Off-Site: Work may be performed outdoors during all seasons and all-weather events.
  • Meetings, trainings, and site visits at a variety of facilities and areas.

Reaching: Extending the hands and arms or other device in any direction.

Repetitive motions: Making frequent or continuous movements.

Sitting: Remaining in a stationary position.

Standing: Ability to sustain position for a period of time.

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

Talking: Communicating ideas or exchanging information.

Walking: Ability to move to traverse from one location to another.

Applicants must have the ability to learn the operation of various wood product processing machines. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, bend and twist without restrictions. Wages start at $19.77 plus $2.00 an hour for shift differential, shift hours 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm. Prior mill, construction, and manufacturing background are nice prior skills to have, but not necessary to be successful at Rosboro.
